will the plasti-dip handle the head produced from the headlights okay? guess time will tell

does look great though
Cheers Chris!

The plasti-dip will be fine - I baked the headlamps at 160c to reseal the lenses without a problem, also the back of the projectors is cast alloy - the globe holder might get warm but the whole unit is isolated from the reflector by a 5mm thick silicone washer.

The projectors are 35w, there isn't much heat there - the lenses were cool to the touch after running the lamps for 30 minutes with the car stationary.

I have Hids in the standard reflector housing, its a bit annoying.. Will be doing this soon !! :)

RichX 25-03-2014 11:54 AM

Hid bulbs are really really cool.
This is why a lot of factory installs put washers on them, as in cold/freezing climates, the headlights freeze over, so they use the washer to unfreeze/clean them.

also if anyone is worrried about the plastidip withstanding heat, i have painted headlight reflectors with black high temp engine enamel before. Has withstood the heat over time

Plastidip is used on wheels, is it not?

Wheels get much hotter than lights... Esp on the track.

Great write up! Great pics!

But I am not a fan. Classic GC8 should be left with classic design and not try to modernise it. HID's look out of place on these old girls.

Self leveling lights arent a requirement, but are sure as shit annoying when someone is coming over a hill and youre at the bottom of the hill, and for that moment their car is angled up and the HID's are shinning right into your eyes. Not nice to experience that.
