Comparison of STI suspension between 99 STi & 06 STi
Hey Guys
Does anyone have a strong knowledge on factory 99 STi suspension as a comparison to the suspension used in the 06/07 STi model. What improvements/benefits there were ? Cheers

The biggest benefit is that it fits an 06/7 Sti

The Australian version 5 STi's had 'normal' struts (same as JDM version IV), the Aus Version VI was the first to have inverted struts.
To be fair you can't really compare the suspension on a GC V's 06+ STi - the late suspension is carrying 1480Kg (Gc is 1270kg). The 07 STI has the new double-wishbone rear suspension that should provide better ride and handling precision than the old MacPherson struts. The 07 STI also has Steel front control arms V's alloy on all previous STi's. You're trying to compare 2 systems with an 18 year design gap between them.

I think he is talking about the struts. If so 06/07 sti struts are made for anheavier car so will provIse a pretty harsh ride on a gc8, not to mention i dont think they will fit due to the different hubs.

Correct Tony. I should have been a little clearer. My bad!
I ask this because I'm looking at changing my hubs to the 5x114.3 from the 06 STi. If, I do go down this track I will have a complete set of Factory 02 STi hubs and disks up for grabs. PM me if your keen.

Actually, the opposite, given the car is lighter the ride should be pretty good.

I dont really think the price difference and effort to swap between 02 sti and 06 sti is worth it

I ran stock 05 STI suspension in my old GC8, they were just as harsh as coilovers. and the ride height was way out of whack with the rear end sitting considerably higher than the front.

Late model STI from 06 onwards won't go into the GC chassis due to the design changes in 06 afaik.
The springs would be way too stiff anyway (they are stiffer than the 05's).

Draggin up an old thread but question is fairly similar. Would 02 sti suspension gear fit into an 05.
I ask as Westcar is selling those Sti pink's with king springs out of his bugeye, looking to know if it would bolt in.
