amp in boot causes interference

has anyone got a bugeye or had issues with interference from having an amp in the boot of the car?

let me explain, i have 2 amps, a 2 channel and a mono block. originally i didnt have interference and then all of a sudden i have interference coming from only the mono block. i know its the mono amp as i took the amp out and it went away. the two channel has no interference currently

however it only does it on radio where the signal cuts in and out in areas that without the mono amp it seems to work fine (mainly in the balcatta area)

just want to know if anyone has any advice? the amps are on the backing of the chairs in the boot. it doesnt do it if the amp is not in the car :p

cheers guys!!:rolleyes:

does the earth go direct to chassis? short as possible?

does power line run the length of the car next to rca's?

the amp turn on wire runs along side the RCA leads but why would any of that cause interference on the radio itself (the inputs on the radio like ipod and stuff are fine) its just the fm side of it. and only in certain areas.

however the ground wire is to chassis. it is sanded down as well so straight ground connection. it also has the power running down the opposite side to the rca leads :\

Have you got a bugeye wrx or sti? The sti has the fm Ariel in the rear window glass and requires a switched 12v supply to run properly. If it's just the wrx I would get an fm booster on eBay for $10 connect to switched 12v and it should be sweet.

using the Perth-WRX mobile app

Yeah even so, the WRX's don't have the best reception.

That is exactly what you need, hook that blue wire up to the red 12v (switched 12v supply) Plug that inline with your existing aerial and laughing :)

Best of luck

I think i need one of those boosters in my 01. Radio quality is shit, even with a new headunit. Even get a scratchy signal in the metro area for most stations.

Hey mate, i got one on ebay from eastern states for $16. i will see how it goes and let you know :)

apparently if you already have crappy signal then they dont fix it, they just increase the noise making it worse.

however have you mucked around with the amplifier in the boot? its attached to the top of the boot near the boot light, looks like a black box with holes in it and a red/black cable coming off it? i originally thought it was bad signal, but the box i had was not even plugged in (tested with a multimeter) just a bit of a starting point atleast :) if you need a photo of it i can find one

actually here it is
