Overboosting but i don't know why?

Hi guys im new to perth wrx. Bought an 02 wrx wagon last weekend. It has overboost issues. From what I can tell.. the turbo is stock.. the wastegate is stock.. it has a gfb atomic manual boost controller installed correctly.. and I cannot seem to find the restrictor pill in the line between the turbo and the boost controller.

How does all this add up to overboost for you guys in the know? Or can anyone help me troubleshoot to figure out why it is overboosting. Also the boost controller is wound right back to as lower boost level as it can go.

Please help guys its no fun having to only use half throttle to avoid overboost.

Thanks

Cameron

Wastegate could be stuck?

Try bypassing the boost controller and run an intake pressure line direct to the gate actuator. This will tell you if its a gate issue or a controller issue.

Or, remove the heat shield, and then use a lever, pliers, screw driver to push the wastegate back where it joins the actuator.

If sticky, some spray rust remover/penetrene may help, (wipe of excess) free it up.

Does it Matter what internal diameter the line is that I run from the turbo to the wastegate? Or can I just grab some generic hose from a parts store so long as it looks similar in size?

Also if it comes out 7psi running straight to wastegate should I try getting a restrictor pill and re connecting the stock boost solenoid?

Reverting to the OEM setup is a step in the right direction.

siezing/faulty actuator? check all the above! if its not obvious get a mechanic to suss it!

Going to try a turbosmart boost controller with the hoses that are with it tonight. If no good then ill do a line to wastegate actuator and see the results of that.

Wind it the other way, sounds like you've closed the valve instead of opening it

I downloaded the installation manual for the gfb boost controller and double checked I wound it the right way to turn the boost down.
