EJ207 is around 3500 plus gaskets. Its factory assembled, and fitting involves installing the heads and the ancillaries, and dropping it back in.

Spooled, aka Alex recently did the EJ207 SHORT MOTOR, dropping it back in thingo. Im pretty sure he got very little change from $6k...

Alex can you confirm?

BTW you should have seen his old engine, the big end let go pounding the piston into the head...30psi will do it every time on a standard WRX motor

there are 5 types of EJ20 blocks

Open Deck as found in all naturally aspirated 2.0 Litre imprezas.
Open Deck EJ20G/EJ20K as found in all wrx's and some STI's till 1998
Open Deck EJ205 as found in wrx's 1998-2005
Closed Deck as found in early liberty RS's, BG5/GTB twin turbo liberties till 92, and the version 3 STI in 1997
Semi-Closed Desk as found in EJ207 from 2001 through till present.

All engines have varients of piston type/quality, compression ratios, i'll post these shortly.

agreed, its a bloody good price and worth considering given the discussion is on EJ20* rebuilding options.

The extra torque of a 2.2 + JUN quality internals is very attractive. I added a fully closed block and improved heads to the theoretical parts list just to stay with the qwality theme.

Chee, I use a calculator

Another street option is to drop in a low Km Liberty B4 Engine.
Fred at Swan has some sitting on the shelf for $5500 from as low as 5000km. The B4 came with a higher compression ratio of 9:1, reported to have forged pistons and the same bucket over shim improved heads of the STi with sexy sodium filled valves . Remembering the MY94 -MY02 Aus spec WRX was 8:1

They swap over all the sensors and other goodies from your standard GC8 WRX engine. The high comp engine responds well with the underated TD04. Be careful...I suspect if they are pushed with a VF**turbo it may all end in tears.

Last edited by maddog; 02-07-2006 at 01:04 PM. Reason: coz they changed the MY03 to 9:1 comp ratio!
