GC8 - PFC - Installed TD05-18g - runs ROUGH!

Hi All,

Just a newbie question i guess.

I am freaking out and need some advice from you guys.

I have a Gc8 with an EJ20K STI motor that has 480cc yellow tops.

I've just installed a TD05-18G and the car runs like absolute crap. Misfiring and very rough.. I've barely driven it staying under 3k rpm, hover at 2k rpm. few back fires here and there.

I am using the powerfc, i haven't had a tune yet. (just the base map that comes with the pfc)

Is this normal? and will the tune fix this?? (ill get the car towed for the tune)

Thanks all

Powerfc base map is very rich and usually not recommended to drive on. Get it towed to your tuner, they will tune it to your mods and if that doesn't fix the issue they should be capable of fixing it.

Plug your standard ecu back in and see if it runs better just to check you haven't left something off

Larger than stock injectors?

If so you need to change the injector scaling in the powerFC, otherwise it will be so rich it'll struggle to run.

Thanks all for the replies, i asked the tuner he said it should run fine.

So something dwefinately wrong.

@ Roscco, originally put 1000cc and scaled as per the tuner, it would start and i check the plugs, they were COVERED in fuel.

Since then i installed the standard size and it starts( thought it hard to start, takes a few goes with pedal on gas)

my thoughts, I've installed the original injectors incorrectly (standard injectors) or the plugs are fouled badly. i.e they need to be replaced.

What do you think?

No point thinking if's, but's or maybes.

Tow it to your tuner/mechanic. It is likely something that isn't that big a deal/can be fixed when they tune it.

Don't play around with your ECU chasing something if you don't know what you are doing/what the problem is.

It will cost you more fixing it once you munch something than it would taking it there in the first place.... which you will no doubt have to do when you work out what the issue is anyway!

PS: Of course it is misfring/rough. The turbo is completely different to the stock PFC tune is expecting and the poor ECU has no idea how much fuel/air is coming or going to compensate.

Mine did the same from a TD04 to a VF34 (however not so badly). drove off boost to get it tuned at ASG.

TL/DR..... tow to tuner

sounds like the car has dropped a cylinder I just pull the plugs, one was covered in fuel. that's not right. regardless of tune. The rest where fine.

I suspect i didnt reinstall one of the injectors correctly ill pull it out on the weekend.

Swap plugs and see how it goes. If a plug doesn't fix it you've probably got an injector that's sticking.

careful my mate installed injectors wrong was just pouring fuel in ending up killing the motor as he drop round for half hour with it before he figured it out
