Replace one faulty injector, or replace whole set?

Hi guys,

This might seem like a really stupid question, but I have tried using search so here we go.

I've had an injector fail on cylinder #2 dumping raw fuel into it from the moment the key is turned on. A workshop has confirmed this and has the faulty injector out of the car.

Now originally they thought it was 2 injectors and that I would need a whole set to match instead of just replacing the 2. Now that it is only 1 injector I am looking for some opinions.

Should it be fine to replace a single injector, or do I really need to throw out a whole set?

Injectors in question are ID1000cc.

Thanks in advance for help.

I think its safer to replace whole set.

I have my eyes on a set of bosch 850 cc plug and play injectors, 380 shipped. Apparently, ID doesn't flow test and match injectors before pack them up, only DW, bosch, and most japanese brands do. Correct me if im wrong.

Do the set. You want them flow matched.

Yep, just going to suck it up and take the cost. Shame as the injectors are only 4 months old.

s2052xxx:

"We only sell matched sets, and within each set the dynamic flow rate (slope) will vary no more than +/- 1%, and the dead time (offset) will vary no more than +/- 20 microseconds which is equivalent to +/- 1% at a pulsewidth of 2 milliseconds."

Not that I can recall, but I didn't pay much attention to them as I wasn't fitting them.

Yeah, I have contacted them and the response was less than satisfactory in my mind. I have been advised it needs to be sent to their U.S testing facility where it can be checked for defects and fixed/replaced. I will be doing this, but obviously can't sit around without a car for weeks on end while waiting.

That's shit - did you buy them from the US? If you got them from a Australian retailer, you'd hope you'd have the opportunity to at least handball it to them and then it becomes their problem.

Likely to only give you one though instead of a new set.

The whole thing was plagued with misunderstanding so I'm hesitant to put anyone out to dry over it at this stage. Initially it was thought 2 injectors had malfunctioned, so ID took a very defensive stance. However it turns out that it was injector #2 that had stuck, not 2 injectors.

None the less, I spoke to the Australian store I purchased them from who then referred the conversation to ID. This was their response:

"It's highly unlikely that an injector actually failed in that manner.

If he would like to send them in for testing and possible warranty (warranty covers defects only), he'll need to follow the instructions here.

IF an injector is in fact open, it's likely the signal wire got pinched on install. As you know, the circuit gets power with the key on and the ecu pulses the ground to open the injector, so if you pinch the signal wire, the injector will open as soon as power is applied (key on). I've seen this multiple times.

Anyhow, let me know what you would like to do and we'll get them checked out if you want to send them in."
