Hey Guys,

there is this weird high pitch buzzing noise that sounds like an air compressor that starts when you first flick the ignition and the gauge animation starts but disappears when it finishes... Similar to the fuel pump sound (that you hear on every car during the ignition start process before actually starting) but much louder.

But when you start the car, the sound starts again... and sometimes doesn't stop.

The exact location of the sound is unclear but it gets louder when you approach the back right tyre as you can see in the video.

here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BOz9ZRX0Ic&?version=3&vq=hd1080
(as you can hear in the video, the sound actually stops near the end of the video...)

It only just happened yesterday.

And it comes and goes. Sometimes it would disappear completely but as you keep driving, the high pitch buzzing noise comes back.

The car did just have an engine rebuild and i will be taking it back to them as it is still under warranty.

I am just wondering if you guys know what it is... At first i thought it could have been electronics not wired correctly or something to do with wiring. But now im thinking it might be the fuel pump...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys in advanced,
M

EDIT: found another video which confirms it is the fuel pump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulF3f-6rdeU

Sounds EXACTLY like this.

Fuel pump!

What pump do you have?

I have a Bosch 044 in tank and on hot days with less than a 1/4 tank of juice it sounds like that - but isn't as loud as yours.

damn...

Do you know what the repercussions are if it conks out after a rebuild?

Do you recommend not driving it until its been replaced?

What pump is in it??
