I think you'll find you have shafts running through the whole unit on a hi/lo box.

Just use an occy strap to your passenger headrest, I remember that fixed an old Combi I had, worked for years..... or would that keep it in low? can't remember which way mine went now.

Looks like your correct buddy the hi and low range is in the front section of the box with the front diff.
