Secondary air pump fail

Hi ppl, my secondary air pump failed throwing up a CEL light and flashing CC button. Common I know. Had the car (2006 wrx) ecutek tuned and the code blocked so no more CEL. I didn't have the pump removed, just the code blocked.

Now, my question is, are you suppose to have full function of the cruise control back or is it gone for good? My cruise control worked fine until I got the error, was disabled whilst having the CEL, now the cruise control has stopped flashing since the code was blocked, but it doesn't work at all. Press the button and no light comes on to show its active. Tested the controls anyway and it definitively doesn't work.

Subaru has a recall on- Secondary Air Pump Relay
Vehicles affected:
*Liberty GT
*Impreza WRX/STI
*Forester XT
Recall statement I received says:
"If the relay were to fault, the secondary air pump circuit is powered continuously. If the secondary air pump circuit is powered continuously it may overheat and this may pose a fire risk".
Having the fault code blocked is crazy. Considering the fix is at no expense to the owner.

The chance of an electrical fire is still present. There is no fuse just a relay so this is to remove the proble.

They will also provide refunds if you had any work done prior to the recall. Ie you can get a part refund from your ecutec flash

Interesting thread, I myself have received the recall however, being 600kms from the nearest Subaru dealer is less than convenient. When my new motor went in the secondary air pump was removed and consequently the error code flashed.

Will I still be prone to the above mentioned worst case scenario?

If all hardwire/electrical is removed you should be ok. Maybe ring your tuner to confirm.

They are replacing the relay in the fuse box
