e85 on my01 wrx, All in the tune?
Have found a few things online regarding earlier wrx's and running e85 (Mostly american sites) but am just wondering what is needed to run it safely, Is it just a remap to suit the fuel or do the lines need to be changed along with suitable injectors and fuel pump?

Not sure about older wrxs if there are any components that need to be changed in order to be alcohol compatible but generally you will need a high flow pump and larger injectors as e85 needs roughly 30% more volume to make the same power.
If you want to be able to run petrol or e85 then it is preferred to also install an alcohol content sensor so that the tune can adjust boost, Ignition advance and flow. I am sure there are others on this forum that know better and will add in some extra detail. |

ASG and most of the other reputable workshops can tune an oem ECU in the GD WRX/STI to suit e85.
It is highly recommended to go to an after market ECU to run e85 as it is a lot easier to tune and you also get the fun goodies - antilag, rotational idle, launch control etc. To run e85 you will need an e85 compatible fuel pump and injectors. Also worth doing your fuel lines to suit as ethanol eats through plastic over time. A ethanol content analyser is also recommended although not necessary. I have been running e85 for 4 months now with no problems and have only upgraded the fuel pump and injectors. If you are doing it to an 01 wrx it would be worthwhile to have the supporting mods done - cooler, turbo, exhaust, intake, headers and remove your catted up-pipe... Otherwise you are wasting your time and money. Hope that shed some light using the Perth-WRX mobile app

Great post, Was just curious about the fuel lines etc and how old is too old. How did you find your cars mileage on e85 compared to 98? ( If mods have not changed of course )

Definatley less mileage in comparison to 98.
I will get 250-300kms to a tank of e85 that's never to fuel light, usually about 3/4 empty. 98 was about 400kms to a tank. Price is less though. Was $1.16/l at one stage. I will never go back though, ethanol is just so much better. The torque and response is just off the charts using the Perth-WRX mobile app
