Default Exhaust Gas Recirculation

Hi Lads and Ladies,

Wondering if anyone Is particularly knowledgeable about the EGR system? I've been searching like crazy the last few days and have found loads of diagrams and info on it, but it seems that there's a lot of confusion between egr and evap components. Its making it difficult to to work out what is what. Here is the diagram which I think is the correct one for my car. It seems to match up pretty well.

I have a 1997 wrx with a v3 sti engine in it. I've snapped the vacuum nipples off of what I believe to be the EGR solenoid valve. Its mounted under the intake manifold on the passenger side. Here is a kind of crappy picture of the part I'm on about..

We went to subaru with the solenoid valve and ordered a new one, but they got us the "Pressure sources switching solenoid valve" instead. (the top left of the giagram) which is mounted above the front drivers side wheel. This has brown nipples, not green. So I just would like to see if anybody could tell me that I'm asking for the right part and this actually is the EGR solenoid valve? And if there's anywhere else apart from subaru that I can get one? Thanks everyone.

That green solenoid is the Charcoal cannister purge control solenoid - emission control - the charcoal cannister stores fuel vapour from the fuel tank.

There is no EGR valve on a turbo Ej....... The diagrams you posted are for the US non turbo 2.5l Impreza RS.

I thought EGR systems were prominently on turbo diesel's only?

I blocked that shit off in my Navara, it was contaminating the fk out of my oil/head with soot!

Sounds like it's a good thing that my car doesn't have it then... could well be more common on diesels but there are a hell of alot of posts about these American 2.5 petrol imprezas with it.
