GC8 era EJ207 block power limit

So, i have ordered myself a set of headers and a process west intercooler.
My V6 Sti already has TBE 3" exhaust and an autronic ECU and 500hp fuel pump. Now the last thing im stuck on is the damn turbo.

Im looking at either a VF34, or a Blouch 20G. The 20G would give me more power, but being a stock EJ207 block (its a JDM engine) im unsure if I will be taking it to unsafe limits.

Im aiming for 200kw @ wheels, but later would like to push it a little higher once i get bigger injectors.

I guess my question is, what is the maximum "Safe' power level on a GC8 era EJ207.

I've read anywhere from 400 to 500hp at the wheels for an unopened 207 circa 2002 (forged pistons, semi closed deck). Maybe a tad less for the open deck version of the 2l from that era.... Also thats American dyno though so take a bit more off.

Did the JDM 207's have forged pistons?

I thought only the Oz one had forgies.

as far as im aware, the JDM motors did not have forged pistons.

Safe power figure without a built motor I would be inclined to say around 220kw @hubs.

I'm at 250kw @ hubs on e85 and that's on a pretty safe 1.5 Bar tune.

Mine is a GD 207 though.

Yes they did, up until my02 ("version 7"). My03 onwards ("version 8") were hypereutectic. Whereas oz kept them until my05

200 atw is going to be your limit, over that and big end timebomb.

VUSSUTE 13-11-2015 09:14 PM

well i guess thats just an excuse to get a built motor....
If that was the case, is it worth building the GC8 207 with full forged internals....
Or if im not planing on more than 250awkw just get the GC8 207 built... or will I require a semi closed deck from a later model. (GC8 207's are open deck)

Im kind of torn between a 20G and a VF34...
Arggggg decisions!

Take a look at Ross' build thread for ideas. Pretty sure he is using his Version 6 block still. Could always go for a EJ20G too.

Ross changed the v6 207 which is open deck to the 02 semi-closed then meant mental with parts :D
