Default My Exhaust is too quiet

Hi all. I recently bought this my05 wrx and its been awesome so far. The only thing I'm disappointed in is the exhaust. I had a look around the forums but no one seems to feel there exhaust is too quiet. I bought the car with the TBE so I am unsure of the brand and the tip has no branding around it either.

I don't really want to fork out for a full new system but I'm guessing that won't be necessary. Like I'm a child I like noise, I feel its too quiet while idling and low rpms but when it opens up at 3500k rpm it sounds very nice. I changed the headers to unequals to get more of that boxer rumble but now I need more sound.

I have put some photos below, any one have any suggestions?

You already have a cannon muffler, so that's going to be louder than an oval muffler. My guess is to remove the centre resonator, that should free up some noise.

Agree. It looks like you have two resonators from that second pic.

I assume you already have a quality dump pipe.

Yeah the dump pipe is definitely not the problem. I guess the original owner didn't like the sound and got an extra one added. I'm guessing my options are to take it to an exhaust shop and ask them to remove the center resonator?

That should make some difference. I am still surprised that it is so quiet as reasonators are just straight through perforated pipes encased in wadding. Whilst they reduce some volume they are usually used to stop drone.

Is your main rear silencer straight through and full three inch?

Perhaps unbolt your rear muffler and see how loud it is there. That will tell you how much noise it is taking out.

The fact that it may or may not be full 3" won't make a lot of difference to the sound per se. I have a 2.5" SS Group N system for sale ($250) which is very loud since it only has 1 motorsport muffler.
It's all in the mufflers and resonators....

In all seriousness a 3" TBE with headers and a Milo tin on the back should be more than loud enough.

If you want louder you honestly need to consider full straight through system and and straight pipe.

I guess so, just thought considering what I have already that I would be able to hear the car idle when I have the aircon on but its not the case, its real quiet.
