Default Turbo recommendation

Hi all, hoping you can help me out.

Ive got myself an my04 sti with a vf22 turbo, currently pushing 190kw atw.

Coming from an evo 9 with 220kw atw im a tad dissapointed and want to achieve similar results.

Im getting silicon intake, cai and possible upping of the boost to acheive hopefully over 200kw atw.

Though ive read the vf22 is old tech an laggy for they power output. My turbo seems to spike to 20psi but drop to as low as 16psi all the way to redline. As you can imagine it feels dead up top.

I was thinking i would take the opportunity while work is being done and tuned to sort this out, that i would upgrade the turbo to something like a blouch xtr td05 18g 7cm? (Or 8cm)

Not sure though if there will be much benefit over the vf22.

Also...what would be the direct equivilant to the evo 9 turbo?

Thanks in advance

I went the other way, Subaru to EVO VII and you are trying to compare very different cars and their power / torque delivery. To be honest you have the best bottom end and drivetrain to start with so that is a good start.

The equivalent to am Evo9 turbo would be like a GTPS02, or if you want to get more into it a VF36 / VF37 which are twinscroll. Both work great with factory TMIC setups.

You could look at something like a dom 1.5 xtr.

Or i have a near new dom 2.5 xtr forsale. It made over 250kw on a 2.5L at wastegate pressure. It would certainly do what your wanting from it. It was spooled by 3.6k (2.5L) and pulled all the way to redline. Would maybe be a touch big for a street 2L, but it will certainly make the power up top.

Thanks the dom 1.5 looks great, 2.5 would be a little too big i think.

Anyone know whether 7cm 8cm or 10cm is best for the ej207?

Better to be one size too big than one size too small. The dom 2.5 has the exact same compressor wheel as the 1.5. It just has a bigger turbine wheel. (Proper garret gt30 wheel instead of the smaller internal gate version of the 30 wheel.)

10cm is equiv to about a 0.8A/R. I reckon with the bouch billet wheel turbos 10cm is the only way to go. They spool so fast as it is, may aswell not choke it at the top with a too small AR.

Definite daily driver.

Looking for good response and atleast 220kw atw

I understand it will be laggy but would like the best possible scenario.

The reason i ask is that i saw a dyno chart posted here earlier comparing the 8cm and 10cm 1.5 xtr and there was little difference in spool but more top end for the 10cm

Yeah. 2.5xtr is on the big side for a 2L. I only mentioned as i have one for sale that i want to sell haha.

As for your last comment about the 8cm and 10cm comparison. Yeah its pretty spot on. Tiny increase in spool with the smaller size, but a better top end with the bigger.

Another thing that makes a signicant difference to sppol is the 3"inlet on a stock location turbo.

While on the subject, at the time i got my last ture, there was another member with a dom 2.5, but he went 8cm. My car spooled earlier with the 10cm. AND made more power. AND did it at a lower boost level. Just sayin....

I had a dom 1.5 8cm on a stock 2.5L.. 18psi at 3.6k rpm and 240kw with e85. Going off of Bram's results it looks like the smaller housing isn't doing much for earlier spool times.
