Default Another exhaust thread

Hi guys. I need a new exhaust on my car, as the one on it now is some sort of ebay cat back cannon. Very loud and very droany. Im surprised the cops haven't picked on me yet.

I just wanted to see what you guys think, or would do differently.
My plan at the monent is to get an ultrex tbe (with tune)
Tap my manifold for a egt sensor and possibly get an ebay up pipe as they are not very pricey.

Would i gain anything from a new up pipe without new headers?
Was steering away from getting headers because of the cost. And then having to get a bung welded in.

Also with regaurds to the tune, im quite ignorant. Do i need to buy a chip or can they just re tune my ecu? (01 wrx sti)
I have no spare parts to take with to dyno if anything were to fail.

Again, thanks for your time.

Tuning is normally done on the factory ECU.

To my knowledge there are no gains to be had changing an up-pipe. Down pipe/dump is where the power is unleashed. Headers also as the factory items are quite restrictive. Wouldn't bother changing up-pipe until you do headers which will usually come with one.

My car is an sti so i probably will leave the up pipe stock, unless i decide to splurge on a header.
The egt i want to tap my stock manifold for is just for a guage. I have a 3 guage ati dash pod that i need to fill with stuff, was told egt is a handy one to have. Other ones will be boost and probably oil pressure
