Default Parallel Fuel Rail Questions

Had a search, didn't find much.

I am upgrading the fuel system on my 05 STI.

This will consist of;

ID1300x
Radium Fuel Rails
Turbosmart FPR1200
-6 PTFE feed and return lines
Raceworks 2.8L surge tank (2 x Walbro 460's, 2nd one boost switched)
Walbo 460 in fuel tank.

Questions I have;

- Do I re-use the oem fuel filter in the engine bay or run an inline unit out the surge tank?

Will be running the same design as the RCM one;

AppleMat likes this.

Has your oem filter been in use while you have been using e85? My two cents worth would be to replace it if you're replacing everything else.

I wouldn't put the filter inside the surge tank if you replace it as you will be taking up capacity of the tank itself.

Why two 460's, what are your power goals?

Yeah I had been using the oem filter on the last car with e85 with no issues. Only problem was a bit of surge.

I was planning on running an external inline filter from the surge tank feed to the rails probably in the engine bay or in the boot.

Well and truly overkill for the current setup with the twin 460's. I am just future-proofing for down the track if (hopefully not) the motor dies.

Will be looking at a closed deck, rotated setup etc and aim for ~500 WHP

Plus I accidentally ordered an extra pump so figured I may as well use it.

Hehe fair enough then.

Maybe have a talk to your tuner. When I installed my surge tank/fpr/flex fuel I spoke to Jamie at Tokyos a few times to Get it right first time. I have had no issues with my system touch wood.

I use a post pump Bosch inline filter. I'll dig out the part number later. Perfect for 98 and E85

Incidently 1 460 is plenty enough for 500whp

Actually had the part number as a memo on my phone.
Andy Forrest advised these when I was having issue with the speedflow one I originally used. In my car for around 8000 miles so far and injectors were spotless on a recent tear down.
You won't go wrong with one of these. From an old 911 believe it or not. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...50-905-016-INT

Thanks for the input Daz, are the Bosch ones a paper filter?

I've seen this which would be easy to integrate;

Or would something like this with a re-usable filter be better?;

I used a reusable one and it just kept clogging up.
I have the "sock" on the intank 460 and one of the Bosch filters after my two 044s before the rails. 8000 miles using both 98 and E85. When I stripped it down for the dropped valve the Injectors were absolutely spotless. No deposits in them or anything. So the filter is doing it's job and it's not disintegrating either.
