Just wondering what oil people use to run in there newly built engines? In my case its a new ej207 from regents which i believe is a 02.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

As the engine is already blueprinted and balanced, I would drive the thing like you stole it.
Less blown by later on in life.

have you guys ever heard run in oil from super cheap? is that any good?

"Run-in oil" is pretty much just another name for cheap-ass mineral oil.

Dont bother with anything except what is recommended for an STi, because thats what the motor is out of.

BLUES 09-10-2006 12:06 PM

please! how much did you just spend on the motor? Put some decent quality oil in it.

ahahah cheers guys - i dont care what it cost i just want the right stuff in there

What do STi use- will they tell me or better off will they sell it to me?

Use a mineral based oil for the run in period, i.e. a cheap shit oil is perfect! Have a read of this controversial method: Motoman

When the GC8's were released Subaru recommended staying with the original mineral oil until at least 12500 km. Then change to a fully synthetic. Subaru engines risk glazing up if you use a synthetic oil during the run in. The rings need to have some friction to bed in otherwise you risk creating an oil burning low powered dog.

Recapping the run in process....cheap mineral oil and take it for a thrash :D

They use 5W-30 Castrol/Mobil 1 - ask them what they use & buy it from Supercheap/Repco, etc.
