Cross drilled or slotted rotors
 

I may be in the need of sum new rotors. Whats the common opinion of using either cross drilled or slotted rotors?

Which may be better or do they provide the same result?

I'm happy wit my DBA4000 rotors wit DS2500 brake pads :)

DBA say for racing applications you dont want drilled

because of the potential for 'catastrophic brake failure'

they can shatter under extremes :)

Dont get cross drilled on the street... Prone to cracking and warping.

Reason is that when you come to a stop, your rotors are hot, and as they begin to cool down, the area that remains under the pad when you are stopped cools slower than the rest of the rotor exposed to the air. This constant uneven cooling and heating cause slight warping that can very quickly crack a cross drilled rotor. Cross drilled rotor are excellent for dissapating heat, when on a track and constantly moving, but the cross drilled holes them selves physically weaken the rotor and accenuate the effects of stop start driving on the street.


Slotted is good and will be excellent for a street car. Gives you plenty of stopping power without weakening the rotor and causing it to warp and crack.

Of course most of the stopping potential of a car really lies in the pads themselves... So dont skimp on a good street pad. Track racing pads are no good for street cars beacuse they take a bit of constant pressure to heat up and work properly.

Track pads are actually worse on the street than a decent set of street pads like the ferodo ds2500.

Intereesting opinons on the cross drilled.. i too have heard that they crack, but what about the supercar brands like porsche, mercedes and ferrari, all use cross drilled brakes.

Wouldnt this problem occuring with their rotors??

most people dont drive their cars hard enough to break rotors.

Drilled holes vs cast holes are the difference. DBA 'cross drilled' rotors are for show, the slotted discs are what you want.

hmm so does anyone make cast holed rotors???

Brembo and the like do them, but i'm unsure if they are available as an oem replacement for the STI.

Having said that tino, i had slotted on the ap 6 pot on the wagon and they were fantastic. I think the two piece dba's or ap's for your brembo with stainless lines, 2500's and some fresh fluid will be MORE than adequate.
