Default Over tightened oil filter

Okay need some help lads. Changing the oil today Got new oil and oil filter. Have dropped the oil, but the place i had my last book service (Osbourne Park Subaru) have tightened the filter up so much that it simply will not budge! I am so angry it is that tight! ! They should only be done up by a firm hand. So anybody got any ideas before i give them a serve on Monday?

Still firm with a oil filter removal tool?

Theres another type of oil filter tool that is a little tough on the filter itself. Instead of having a strap that goes around the filter, its got grips kind of like a big jar opener and it crushes the side of the filter to make a flat suface to grip onto. Excellent for getting off tight filters...

Looks like this...

It will damage the filter beyond use but it will get it off. It has never failed me. And since the filter is going in the bin anyway, who cares if it get a little damaged?

Buy it from supercheap auto... Cost me like $5

actually subaru ones need to be done up fairly tight...as they are facing down, and will leak...

if u can find ANY filter on ANY car you can simply undo by you hands after 10,000km then it wasnt even done up tight at all.

The reason that some are so damn hard to get off, is because people dont lubricate the rubber seal on the underside of the filter.

This is supposed to be done, to prevent the rubber binding (and subsequently getting damaged) when its screwed on. It'll also be that tiny bit easier to remove the filter when its time to change it again, but still it shouldnt be an easy hand removal.

just get a loop of say 70cm of 5mil rope and half hitch it around the filter then just put a screwdriver in the loop and twist the filter off and yes dont forget to oil up the seal .

Okay-got it off. Spoke to a mate (you know who you are and thankyou) and just punched a very long screw driver through it with a geo-pick!!! Farq me, it was still very tight-had both hands on the screw driver which was atleast 30cm long and my feet pushed up against the garage wall to get leavage.

Put the new one on and I have snugged it up (tighter than hand ). Time for a beer

Cheers all
