OK,

If someone can explain to me how modding the engine can magically change the gear ratios inside the transmission, or the final drive ratio, or even the circumference of the tyres, then I'll shut up..

I understand that the drivetrain will always take the same number of wheel turns and gearbox turns to do 100kph.... but the engine is not connected to the drivetrain on a fixed ratio.... eg you can do clutch dumps. So wouldnt a slightly more powerful engine be able to spin slightly slower to get the drivetrain to spin at 100kph. Therefore, when my engine which is now a bit more powerful spins at 3000rpm the drivetrain is moving at rate that produces 105kph distance travelled?

If a car needs 150hp going into the gearbox to produce enough revolutions of the wheels to do 100kph. Then surely a 6L commodore engine is going to produce 150hp at a lower engine rev than a 2L 4cyl. Therefore if the engine is more powerful per revolution the revs needed to propel the car at a given speed would drop.

I think Joe, your confusing engine revolutions with drivetrain revolutions. Drivetrain revs will stay fixed for a given speed but the engine could be spinning at 1000revs to produce the power needed or 9000 if its a worked 660cc

Nah clutch dumps is just the cluch slipping on takeoff or gear change, if your cruisin at 100 then u wont have any slippage, and you've got a direct connection to the flywheel. If you we're experiencing clutch slippage at 100, bar needing a new clutch... adding more power would just increase your clutch slip and make the problem worse.

Yeah the fabrication quality is great and the way it fits on the car is very snug and neat. Now that I have felt how the car has improved with the external gate I wish I had done it first before some of hte other mods.

In fact I would go so far as to say that any wrx would benefit greatly from welding up the internal and fitting an external gate. It is night and day. No boost leaks due to early wastegate open = fastest possible spool up.

If increased horsepower doesnt increase the speed you get from a given engine rev then how can a modified car have a higher top speed than a stock car if the gearbox and drivetrain are exactly the same. EG a 500hp 6 speed WRX vs a stock one. Who would have higher top speed? Higher Power per engine rev = Higher Speed. Therefore 100kph@3000rpm + increase engine power = 105kph@3000rpm is logical.

Maybe the increase in power has fucked your drivetrain. Thats why you got funky readings.

LOL if you guys cant understand the difference between engine rpm and drivetrain rpm its not my problem. Drivetrain Rpm remains fixed at a given speed. Engine rpm for a given speed varies depending on the power of that engine per rev.
