Tenagah External Gate fitted, Huge Improvement

Got Tenagah Motorsport to organise one of their new ZAGE external 38mm gates for me. Quality of the part was excellent and the fit and finish in my car is awesome. The quality of the workmanship on the uppipe can be seen in the pics. Hisham has more pics which he is going to email me.

The feel of the car is much improved even in an untuned state as I can now hold 20psi to redline instead of the 15psi peak boost I was getting which dropped to 10psi by redline.

The external gate has removed boost leaks from the internal gate and I now do 100kph with about 300 less revs. The boost at low speeds is now fantastic and I see 5 to 6psi fairly easily even with my big turbo.

The Gizzmo IBC holds the boost really well with a variance from 19.7 to 20.4 on a setting designed to give me 20psi. Very steady boost.

If you want a very solid upgrade to your car then get this done. Even on a stock turbo the improvement in the feel of the car and its ability to hold boost even at high revs will be awesome. Low speed boost will also be increased if your internal gate is openning up too early even by a small margin.

Overall a 10/10 mod....and its not even tuned yet!

More importantly, how does it sound? :D

POLARBEAR666 28-10-2006 08:23 PM

Hmmm ... its sounds pretty angry at low throttle, even though the gates not open. I don't know exactly why but it must be something to do with the airflow near the top of the uppipe because car sounds meaner.

When its releasing gasses you just get a big increase in noise and a sound kinda like someone added another 3 inch exhaust but put a fan in front of it. kinda BRAPA BRAPA BRAPA Scream really fast.

Nice set up and turbo...Can you say what the price range is im interested .

Whats the cost to get the GIZZMO IBC purchased and fitted? or does it vary from Model to model.

POLARBEAR666 28-10-2006 08:33 PM

Tenagah have excellent prices for the quality of the work and attention to the finer details. They honestly treated my car as if it was their own, even working till 5pm saturday when they are closed to get it done. You dont get that from many other workshops!

Abdus sets his pricing not me but they charge $550 for the Gizzmo boost controller fitted, or $399 by itself. Wastegate ended up costing me only $318 which is a bargain and they only charged me a few hundred for the fabrication.

I don't want to say what the total was but I think you could get a similar gate setup for less than $1100. The boost controller is obviously an extra $550. Mine was quite difficult because i have a custom angled turbo setup and x force headers and I also wanted the gate hidden way down low... so you cant see it at all when u look into the engine bay.

Gizzmo is so easy to tune. You have 4 different boost settings each with a gain value. That value determines how much boost you get. so 50 is 20psi on my car.

Its simple to use and seems very stable boost. Has peak boost reached also. Nice bright LED display at night too.
and I now do 100kph with about 300 less revs.
how did an external gate change your gear ratios o_0

POLARBEAR666 28-10-2006 10:42 PM

I think my old internal gate was leaking a fair amount of air so the revs needed to do the same speed is less? ... If i sit on 3000rpm which was my old 100kph figure I now do about 105-107

AntonRX 28-10-2006 11:49 PM

that shouldn't make any difference to speed like jester said
Yes the GIZMO boost control is good i recon i had it on my skyline. I need another boostcontroler for my wrx but not enough money atm.
