Default Idling Problem ---> Is is the AFM?

Hi guys, I know its probably the damned AFM, but I'll give you the gossip anyway and you can hopefully point me in the right direction.
I have a MY00 and whenever I seem to go away for three weeks plus the battery is always drained from the Brant alarm. Anyway, went to Sydney for work for 10 weeks, and ion my return the battery was deader than dead, and as a result I had to buy a new one. After replacing the battery and taking the car for a spin, it is now idling like a mule. Goes from 100 rpm upto 800 rpm in fluctuations untill eventually stalling. Car runs fine when driving, just at lights or when parking, it starts to fluctuate. So after reading a few posts I replaced the old BOV, removed and sprayed the AFM and checked all battery terminal connections and hose conections, and unfortunately its still doing it!!!!
So what do you guys think??? New AFM, and if so, how much and where from?

Cheers Mark

Most likely AFM, or a leak somewhere?

Might be an idea to disconnect ur negative battery terminal when you go away.

I had exact same problem. I cleaned the AFM with carby cleaner, blew it out with an airline and did an ECU reset. The car idled mint after that.

AFM for sure.
giving it a spray with CO Contact Cleaner or something similar will diagnose it, and keep you going for a short while. ideally it would be replaced, it's not something you want to risk.

I think the AFM as well...but after 10 weeks you might have bad fuel...drop the fuel and fill up again. What is the lifespan of Ultimate 98 in a petrol tank anyhow?

also worth noting before you spend $200 is that if you have an oiled pod filter or other oiled filter on your intake, it will very quickly ruin any AFM.

Z32s seem to be ok with oiled filters

Thanks guys, Im getting the feeling that it has to be the AFM and plan to buy one in the morning, and it will certainly give me more peace of mind.
