D2 Coilovers

I have put a set of D2 coliovers on my 01.
They seem to wobble when I hit a bump in the road. Have had a play with the dampening but seemed to do little.
The wheels never leave the road and you feel every crevice which is understandable.
I understand the ride will be much harsher with coilovers but who is the best guy in Perth to make these most streetable ?

These are cheap, harsh coilovers...not much you can do to soften them up..

Isn't it possible to simply change the springs out to a spring with equal diameter and a lower spring rate?

As long as the new spring has the same internal diameter as the d2 spring, I don't see what the problem could be.

They are short stroke and the valving/damping adjustment sucks balls. You get what you pay for. Cant polish a turd. Live with them as they are or upgrade to a better brand. :) Main things to check it that your ride height is sensible and that you aren't bottoming them out through being too low.

Had em, they're shite, as blaise said, deal with em or upgrade.

mr_psi 27-11-2006 03:10 PM

ring joe he is the HSD man.. he will sort ya out wid a set

there my choice

jester 27-11-2006 04:22 PM

i used to have d2's, they made me vomit every time i drove with a hang over and i got launched of humps on a regular basis, i went back to me standard struts wif king lows alot more comfortable but not to sloppy, once swaybars have been upgraded it will handle better than the d2's....... i found out the hard way - by just wacking any coilovers on your car WONT handle better, as everyone has stated you are better of spending some more in teins, DMS or alike

teejay 27-11-2006 04:30 PM

My JIC's are stiffer then the D2's are on their hardest setting by far. You learn to live with it :D

nurzo 27-11-2006 05:49 PM

I can handle the harsh ride but it is the wobble that has got me baffled ?

who installed them ?

were they brand new or second hand ?

nurzo 27-11-2006 08:41 PM

they were brand new and it aint rocket science mate..

mr_psi 27-11-2006 08:46 PM
they were brand new and it aint rocket science mate..
u would be suprised mate... i am a bit worried bout some of the people out there modifyin cars for themselves and others

NVRENUF 27-11-2006 08:50 PM

not having a go. just asking the question ? just seeing different reasons why they may be the way they are.:)

teejay 27-11-2006 09:33 PM

I assumed you meant too stiff.

"wobble" = get them/the install checked by a pro.

nurzo 27-11-2006 10:01 PM

yeah I will get them checked. I am thinking Tim Slako may be the best guy.
I can handle the harsh ride but it is the boob wobble after hitting a bump that has got me miffed.
not having a bat mate at all...just coilovers are very simple to install..setting them up may be something else..
harshness isn't a problem...boob wobble is....

mr_psi 28-11-2006 02:36 AM

maybe you shouldnt get them checked by tim and look at gettin them checked by a specialist... my recommendation would be Wilkinsons suspension mate

nurzo 28-11-2006 07:02 AM

yep, even better..have used them before and they were great..just thought Tim through his vast racing experience would be a good heads up..
thanks.

teejay 28-11-2006 07:20 AM

If he does sus like he does tunes, youll end up with overly rich coilovers :D

jester 28-11-2006 10:17 AM

just get your old struts remove the springs and weld the strut so it is locked, would feel the same as coilovers :)

Bakks 28-11-2006 11:30 AM

Yeah or maybe not.
