MoTeC’s Subaru Diff Controllers

Just was wondering peoples experiences with
MoTeC’s Subaru Diff Controllers

i plan to get one along with the MoTec m800 plug in ECU

i have a 04 sti but doesnt have the diff split setting

any past experiences or an insight would be great

tuna 27-06-2009 10:51 PM

you need a dccd diff to make any use of a diff controller.

Voot 27-06-2009 11:34 PM

makes sense
so im assuming because mine doesnt come with the standard diff control
thats another aftermarket part i will need
and im sure it will be a preety big task

have to weigh up if its worth it or not

BALISTC 28-06-2009 12:13 AM

Your car doesn't come with a DCCD diff.

You will require a factory part, called a DCCD diff, before you can control it electronically.

dtrally 28-06-2009 12:55 AM

^^^ Then after you spend all that money you'll ask yourself "why did I spend all that money, my car is no different to drive"

Seriously, spend a grand (or less) on a plate rear diff and forget about the DCCD centre unless you do autokhana and want to handbrake everywhere.

Mister Two 28-06-2009 12:58 AM

Unfortunately its not as simple as just installing a DCCD Unit into a normal 6 speed.

If you really want DCCD in a 6 speed. Easiest way is to buy a DCCD 6 speed and then sell your VCD 6 Speed. Cost around $1K + labour for the gearbox swap + controller in the end.

DCCD is a nice thing to have, but you are better off getting a Plated rear diff first. A Plated Diff is kind of needed anyway to make the most of DCCD. So get the plated rear LSD and then decide if you want DCCD.

Voot 28-06-2009 02:12 AM

or maybe just get the motec and get antilag or something im sure that will be much funner then rwd

probably end up costing me more in parts down the track tho :P

could be an excuse for a new turbo

haha cheers for the insight guys was just an idea i was throwing about

dtrally 28-06-2009 10:00 AM
or maybe just get the motec and get antilag or something im sure that will be much funner then rwd
That's a myth. DCCD does not make the car switchable to RWD.
It can make more rear torque bias than a VCD, but it's not like the GT-R Skyline's system where you can do burnouts etc.

Elrico 28-06-2009 01:10 PM

I am of the understanding that plated rear diffs cannot be rebuilt.

tuna 28-06-2009 01:12 PM
I am of the understanding that plated rear diffs cannot be rebuilt.
the opposite, plated diffs need to be rebuilt often!

Elrico 28-06-2009 01:38 PM

Ahh ok thanks Stace, umm which are the diffs that cant be rebuilt. I swear i read a thread on here recently explaining that certain types of diffs cant be rebuilt. Must of got confused with the plated ones.

tuna 28-06-2009 01:51 PM

centre diffs, vlsd's and suretrac's are unservicable as far as im aware

Elrico 28-06-2009 01:55 PM

Thanks for the info :> i take it sti rear diffs are just viscous r180s? If so, would it be wise if dropping a 6 speed into a gc8, to get rid of the 3.54 r160 and change into a r180 plated diff? Or would 350bhp be easily handled by a sti r180?

Voot 28-06-2009 07:13 PM

ow okay i was under the impression you could

i thought u could set the split to 100%rwd and 0% to the front wheels

obviously after the other mods

jEstEr? 28-06-2009 07:28 PM

Time for some more research :)

Voot 28-06-2009 08:12 PM

indeed much, much more haha

jEstEr? 28-06-2009 10:40 PM

I don't think you need a motec anything to be honest. According to your sig your car is stock!

Voot 28-06-2009 10:44 PM

haha yeah but i get my bonus from work next month, 5grand
so i plan to put almost all 5 into my car
which i need to start making a shopping list for

motec is down the track i know

V3 RA 28-06-2009 10:46 PM

motec will eat up alot of 5 g

Voot 28-06-2009 10:49 PM

haha yeah then there is the tune
im not saying the 5 is going into a motec
thats for down the track

the 5 will be new exhuast as mine is only kat back
get a reflash done on the existing stock ecu
get rid of my BOV because its fully atmospheric

any other ideas
guess a new turbo would be nice maybe a front mount but i like the top mount at the moment

some semi slicks too

V3 RA 28-06-2009 10:53 PM

start aquiring parts, whack them all on at once to save in tuning etc.

eg first round, zorst, intake, tune.

2nd, fuel pump, injectors, turbo, cooler etc etc...

again all comes down to what you want to use it for and all that

MKVIGTI 28-06-2009 10:56 PM

Equal length headers, Silicon intake.

Voot 28-06-2009 11:01 PM

well i work up north so its not my daily to work and back
so that doesnt limit me, im looking to put some cash into it get some good performance
but yeah defiently get a stock pile of parts and wack them on at once and get a tune

equal length headers will that loose my wrx boxer sound?

and whats a silicon intake exactly herd lots about them

MKVIGTI 28-06-2009 11:37 PM

Yes but you won't regret it. Everyone I know says mine sounds way better since they went on and it was a one of the better sounding ones before.

jEstEr? 29-06-2009 08:08 AM

A motec will probably set you back $4k for your model.

13008A M800 OEM ECU for WRX/STi V78 (Enabled) $ 2,828.10
28116 M800 VARIABLE CAMSHAFT CONTROL $ 330.00
- $3158.10
Thats just the Basics. Then you wanted Antilag too right? so you can shit turbos like a real man

28105 M800 ADVANCED FUNCTIONS $ 535.19
- $3693.29

Then you wanted MoTeC diff control too, not that you have a DCCD diff anyway

14010 SUBARU DIFF CONTROLLER 2 (SDC2.) $ 1,479.06
61046 LOOM - M800 OEM & SDC COMMS - CAN $ 49.60
- $5221.95

Not to mention now you need a few hours of tuning at $250+ an hour

tuna 29-06-2009 08:11 AM

dont scare him off the motecs!! just cruise ebay/nasioc/rexnet for a second hand unit.

muggz 29-06-2009 08:17 AM

one on ebay for 2.9k....

Elrico 29-06-2009 03:44 PM

2nd hand units can have advance shit unlocked aswel, so you could pickup an even bigger bargin. Id personally start with a good ECU.....PowerFC/verso/link is good and all but like Russel Peters says.....

"Beeeee a man, ddoooo the right thing!"

WRXRW 29-06-2009 04:08 PM

hahaha russell peters!

35 dorras, noooooooooooooooooooooo, i sell to you, tomorrow i close down!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qtrAMK7_Qk

motec is overated! be a man do the right thing!

BALISTC 29-06-2009 05:07 PM

Bah! Buy used!!! Pay $1.8k with AVCS and Antilag enabled like I did :D

If I had to pay full price, i would have kept my Link!

Voot 29-06-2009 06:29 PM
Thats just the Basics. Then you wanted Antilag too right? so you can shit turbos like a real man
see this is what im talking about haha

how much more convincing do i need :P

but yeah i have always wanted anti-lag as the first sti i was going to buy had it, but then i payed my deposit for the car went to pick it up and the guy got a yellow canary put on it,
so i took my deposit back

im aiming for a serious street car im not afraid to puts lots of cash into it
to get the best parts, i wont be spending much on cosmetics mostly engine

and a front lip kit

the diff control was just an idea i was throwing about and asked the question if it was as easy as the motec controler, but these things are never as easy as they seem

MKVIGTI 29-06-2009 06:35 PM

Buy Wai's or Jaron's then and sell the current one. All the hard work is done.

Just have to keep up with the running costs ( Speeding tickets!!! )
