Backing Up existing Tune/Upgrading firmware on M800

Hi Guys,

Was Speaking to Darren the other day (previous owner of my WRX) and he said the tune the car currently has is about 23hours worth... probably why it hasn't had any problems running a EJ205 at 1.2bar the last 3-4 years and the compression test and leakdown came back perfect. would like to plug in my laptop and back up the tune just incase anything happens.
Also, i couldn't find any conclusive info in the readme of the motec software but is it worth upgrading the firmware for the so-called improvements or am i better off leaving it as is coz it'll change important things....

Cheers

also, now that i've had a look and seen that i need a USB to CAN adaptor has anyone got one that they'd be willing to lend me the use of?

I have one, im in hamy hill dont mind you borrowing it if you want.

unless you have a problem or want to use a feature I really wouldnt bother upgrading.

also dont just upgrade from v2 to v3 (these are two seperate versions that both get updated, v2 is simpler setup and v3 lets you do alot more but its more complicated)

not all maps will work when you upgrade from v2 to v3 straight off, but minor version changes should be no problem.

migrating to v3 isnt a drama, you just need to spend time on your boost and idle tunes afterwards. this is because of the PID functionality that is easier to operate on v3

As above, I have a CAN-USB dongle and can help you back the tune up. Also as above, you can't just upgrade the software into mordor, I'd recomend taking it to a tuner (Sean at AllStar probably your best bet for that specific tune) and have them upgrade the software for you, as it can make changes to the map that considering you don't know how to back the map up, you probably won't be able to fix in your driveway.

awesome thanks guys, will get in touch and come round some time. Was really just curious as to whether an upgrade would change anything, i guess once i find out what version is on there i'll be able to ask the motec guys and find out conclusively whether it will change anything important. if it does then i'll definitely take it to asg if its worth doing. thanks for the input guys :)
