Worlds First Hard Disk Drive
Below is the worlds first HDD released in 1956 by IBM. It is the 305 RAMAC. The HDD weighed over a tonne and stored 5MB of data.

Are they saying that the 1985 hard drive was $40,000 in 1985 or did some stupid collector buy it for that much in 2006?
|

Maybe it's in $HK? Or another nation's dollar which has much less value compared to ours? I just can't see either of those drives costing anywhere near the prices mentioned in Aussie terms. |
Remember the 6Gb drive is shown under a magnifying glass.
Not your typical 3.5" drive whacked in a computer there. So the $400 price tag would be about right for 2006. |
WOW that hard driver is bigger then the forklift

Yes. I've worked on some truly, disgracefully old hardware, and aquired some "New Computer Buying Guides" along the way from the early and mid 80's. Big dollars for storage back then, big, big dollars. |
