and the justification they are using, saying the expected crowd will be 33,000 is absolute garbage!... Especially considering the last 2 times we've played Geelong in the finals(both at Etihad strangely?), the attendance was 44,000 and 45,000, and neither time was a top-4 clash? I understand that Geelong will/have earned the right to a home final, but if that is the case, why is it dependent on who they are playing?

I'm pretty sure 10,000 were AFL members.
Anyway, I don't give a shit - all I know is that when I start hearing the Dockers whinge like they have, I immediately think they've lost the mental battle and cannot win the GF. Tougher teams will say, "fuck it! we'll beat them where ever". If you win, you have a week off, play at Subi in the prelim, then GF - that's no biggie for any mentally strong outfit to get their head around.

Huh?? 10,000 were AFL members? What are you talking about...
You're just biased against Freo then? You'll note that it's not the team whinging, as I'm sure they are saying exactly what you are suggesting, but it's not the team that is most affected(although from what I've heard, skilled/simonds is a pretty terrible ground to play at compared to the other grounds used for AFL fixtures), it is the club officials and supporters whinging, and I agree with them. Why should 11,000+ supporters of EITHER club(and that is based on the lower attendance finals game between them) miss out on watching the game live? Especially when, as has been stated by the AFL, they would not even consider it for any other opposition? Anyway... I realise this is a fruitless discussion to continue... I only hope that the AFL see the light and recognise that their competition extends further than the state of Victoria, and that Freo fans should be allowed to watch the game live when they are paying hundreds of dollars to travel across to Melbourne. *for the record, I'm not going over there, I just don't think it's fair on the people that are, and may not be able to see the game if this idea goes ahead.

Not AFL members, but it was approx. 10K MCC members that went to both finals...which sounds about right.
So at max you have about 2K members in total from both sides missing out if it sells like previous games (lets not take into account corporate boxes and the amount of free tickets that are given away.....) so in the end, not really anything to be concerned about. No different than when any interstate supporter tries to get a ticket to a final over at Patersons (i.e WCE vs Carlton final a few years ago)...I can assure you that only about 1000 of the 40,000 seats are available for members of the interstate side, majority are sold to local members and supporters of the interstate side are lucky to get a ticket. Freo fans are crying about having to play at the home ground of the team that earned the right to play at their home ground but then their justification is that members will miss out on tickets? Funny thing is, that out of about 15 of them I've personally heard whinge about it, not 1 had any intention of flying over for the game.....lol kind of killed their argument then and there Last edited by DamoESP; 30-08-2013 at 11:57 PM. |

If it was such a normal thing and Geelong had earned the right to play at their home ground, thats what would of been happening over the last few time Geelong finished near the top of the ladder.
It isn't, they haven't. SS wasn't even on the cards, or the AFL final venues listed on the AFL website until a few days ago when the Dockers looked to be the team playing Geelong. Eyebrows has even said if it was another team, Etihad or MCG. Not sure whely teams finishing 5-8 are getting the benefit of playing at the MCG or Etihad but Dockers finish 3rd and get shuffled to a minor ground on a whim. Its pretty shit. Either way, need to go to Melbourne and win. If Johnno could of kicked the ball 1m further or Mayne kicked the ball 10cm to the left they would be playing ag Subi.
