Make sure you walk down to the Crown entertainment complex (unless of course you're staying at the Crown  ) and have a look in the big foyer between the hotel and the casino, fantastic water and light show 24/7. From 6pm every night there is an awesome fire show along the promenade outside next to the Yarra

Victoria markets are over the other side of the CBD and you can get heaps of stuff cheap, makes Freo markets look like a sideshow.

You just gotta go to Lygon street for restaurants.

Jump on the free tram that loops around the CBD.

If you like shopping for clothes/shoes or your other half does, take an extra case.

Like cafe's? Catch the tram to St Kilda. If GF liked Secret Life of Us you have to go there.

Up for a real early start - day trip to the snow.

Don't catch a taxi to city from AP. The red shuttle bus is definately the go especially if you get there in the morning and they'll drop you at hotel door.

il dolce freddo at lygon street :) VERY nice ice cream, and a whole heap of italian restaurants along the area. nice food there too. also don't miss out on the micro bars. can recommend honky tonks & robot. and there's another one with a laboratory theme, can't remember the name.

Yeah we did that day trip in a little hire care. Thru Geelong, stopped into bells then all the way up The Great Ocean rd to the twelve apostles (or the 10 apostles.. or however many are left). Stopped in for lunch at Laun.. it's like margs with 4 story buildings, sorry but I gotta say, that coastline makes ours piss.

The Apostles might have been a bit far for a day trip (16hr round trip) but it was extremely memorable.

Also for shopping Burke (out of the CBD a bit) & Chapel were the shit.
