Default Mazda MX6 Info

I Recently overheated a 92 mx6 i bought as a hack car. And when i say i overheated i mean melted the timing gear cover on the front of the motor...
Its a 2.5 V6. when i went to start it the next day, it was running fine til it warmed up, then it started playing up and barely idles. I know most jap cars once hot are pretty fucked. just wondering if anyone knows what exactly does go wrong, and if its worth fixing or just getting a whole new donk for it.

I've seen what a woman who can't interpret a temperature gauge can do. Like you said, melted all the timing belt and casing to the front of the motor.

Lost cause dude, the head will be a banana. New motor for sure, or cut your losses and move on.

Yeah thought so. Lost enough water for the temp gauge not to work...
Anyone know what my options for a new motor are?
Like a good mazda wrecker?

what a way to kill a lovely KL
You must have got her hot, they can warp the head, though they are all alloy, so it should all warp at the same rate. They have a stainless steel head gasket. How does it run? does it misfire? on 1 cylinder or does it just have no power and run really badly?

has it melted one of the PCV lines, they run a cone type air flow meter, and if there is any vaccumm leaks from the pcv/vris/anything then they wont run right. So check the pcv line that runs from the intake tube to the rear valve cover, the one that runs between the 2 valve covers and the one that runs to the pcv.

Has the intake tube deteriorated, they will cause them to not idle properly if they arent completly sealed.

Is it a manual?

Yeah its a manual. when i started it the next day it ran fine til it warmed up, then it started to fart under load with no power but idled fine. parked it in my driveway and shut it off. about 2 hours later i went to move it out the drive and it'll barely idle now. jumped on a plane that arvo back to hedland and havent looked at it since. so i cant check all the hoses at the mo, but from what i checked, the only visible damage i could see was the timing gear cover. oh, and them cone AFM's are awesome.

I recon... water pump!

I had it go on my mx6. couldnt see it dripping water coz its near the timing cover, and it got so hot that the water was evaporating before it could hit the ground, but the car wouldnt idle or anything.

I ended up cracking the head, so I bought a low km jap import engine from Jap Wreck in Beckenham. Cost me $2k ish installed.

Make sure u take photo's of ur car b4 u give it to them, coz they swung the engine in to low and dented my fender and then tried to tell me it was like that when it came in there. They ended up paying for it to be fixed tho!

if you want a engine i have one , but it was not serviced very often (by the previous owner), so has ticky lifters when it is cold was taken out and replaced with a much nicer engine, though still looking for a klze manifold.
