Reasons for crashes

I was just watching an older episode of Topgear, they were talking about what a retired police officer has figured out over 30yrs what causes car crashes.
Its got nothing to do with slight infringments of the speed limit, however, it does have to do with;

- Careless right turn
- Agressive high speed driving
- The born again biker
- Poor Vehicle Maintainence
- Drink Driving
- Elderly

He really was on target there.....he just missed out one........Commodore Drivers :D

They all look right, and i am glad that Poor vehicle maintence is in there. People dont spend enough maintaining their car.

He cant be very smart if its taken him 30 years to figure that out.. He still left out the major reason I think. People not paying attention
i was wondering what does " THE BORN AGAIN BIKEr? "
The term is used to describe older people who when they retire
or have a mid life crisis decide to buy a high powered bike.
They have enough cash to buy the best, but lack the experience
to handle them. Generally they have either never owned a bike
or used to ride years ago, but lack recent experience.
Thus are prone to accidents due (in part) to over confidence.

Eg - "I am older and know how to drive a car so I must be able
to handle a bike"
or
"I rode these things 20 years ago, how different can they be now"
