Turning Japanese

Hey might be going in Oct.

Anyone know if FHI do a tour or something?

What else is a must see over there? I know the big J man went but he's a little busy at the moment to dish out the travel advice.

I tried to organise a tour an even spoke to the subaru marketing manager from Subaru Aus in the east. He said it is a no go unless there is a whole group i.e. dealers. One of the main problems is how few actually speak english. Even in the tourist parts of Tokyo finding someone who speaks english is not like you would think.

He did give me the name and address of a bar that had a great beatles cover band.

I went to the subaru hq in shinjuku but they had 2 cars on display. One was a WR spec lib and the other was a foz XT with a few bits and pieces. About the best thing I could get was a spec c brochure and pricelist. Their hq is nothing more than an office like you would see in perth with a tiny foyer and a couple of cars.

The subway is really easy to use and the taxi's are dear as poison. I forget the name of the place - I can dig it up but there is a whole street and all they sell is electronics. Awesome. Having said that they are not much cheaper than they are here.

I was there by myself and just went by the lonely planet guide. The main honda shop is pretty cool and the ferrari / rolls / maser / BMW dealerships are all within walking distance of each other and pretty cool. I rocked up into the rolls dealership with my backpack on and spoke to the dealer principal for about an hour. Top bloke.

I was told I had to go to the Sony shop. 7 stories etc and it was pretty cool. It is in the upmarket shopping district and was definately worth a look.

Cheers

About the only place you will get chicken is in a chicken burger at Mcdonalds. I did not go to any super expensive restaurants but could not get it for love nor money.

Akihabara

When you go there, if your looking for something, write the price down on a brochure and then head to the other shops. They will bargain each other down etc. I did this when i was in jp a few years back.
