Default 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Unearthed After 50 Years

Copied from www.usmusclecars.com.au funny read....

Quote:
Not sure how many people have read about the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe that was buried 50 years ago in Okalahoma, as a time capsule to let people know how technologically advanced they were or something (in case we went backwards in tech perhaps ? ).

Anyway, it was put in a nuclear bunker and wrapped in a special cover that was meant to protect it for over 1000 years and make sure it wouldn't rust and stay in "pristine" condition, so it could come out as it went in. So you'd think being built to withstand 1000 years it would last 50.. Well it kinda didn’t.. It was unearthed over the weekend, with a huge amount of advertising and thousands of tickets sold for the event to bring the community together on it centennial...

Along with the car, people in 1957 wrote down what they thought the city's population would be, whoever guessed closest would win the car… now I think they knew it would need a "small" tidy up, so Boyd Coddington offered to give it a polish and whatever else was needed before it was handed over.. Boy does he look surprised in the unearthing video..

What they unearthed, I don't think I would even try to restore…. Lets just say they also found 4 feet of water in the sealed vault

The Must see unveiling Video ---> http://www.kotv.com/e-clips/?id=6748 (if you only watch 1 vid, you have to see this, the look of disappointment on their faces, and especially Boyd's is hilarious, can you guess what he what he whispers to the guy next to him when he sees the tear in the cover...

Official Website about the Car can be seen here: http://www.buriedcar.com/

A few vids about the event http://www.kotv.com/news/local/story/?id=129390

Man that's dissapointing! You could have parked it out the front of the OBH for fifty years and had less rust.

Haha surely they would have predicted some bloody rust would set in? Covers mean shit all. If water wants a way in, it will get in, trust me i know

I would have gone an above ground capsule. It was imersed in water when they pulled it out. Surely they could have guessed that would be bad for it

Not a very good bag, the dude they kept referring to in the crowd must have shrunk in his seat.

Also I am surprised the tyres still had air in them, or better yet, had not just turned to shit

it looks bad, but as pointed out on another thread, id really like to see how it looks after they give it a clean with a high pressure hose..

given that in another photo not on there, someone has wiped the chrome bumper with his hand, and it looks perfect..

so maybe its just covered in mud and silt, which after a good clean will show the true conditoon..

provided its been sitting in the water the whole time, it wouldn't have rusted that much, while anything cloth like would have rotted, the metal would have been ok..
