Bloody brilliant idea. In Darwin we have a yearly inspection on all vehicles which can be done by approved mechanics doesn't take very long at all . Unless its a defect then its got to go over the pits
During the trial, vehicles up to 2500kg, including most commercial and four-wheel-drive vehicles that do not have a defect notice, are not being reassessed because of LP conversions, are not being entered in the written-off register, or are no more than 5m in length, can be examined by RAC Auto Centres and other light-vehicle, private-sector partners.
I'm not sure if I understand right but from what I gather it seems cars with a defect "yellow sticker" will need still to go over the pits at the usual licencing centres and wont be assessed by the RAC private assessors.

Is that right?

thats right, you just beat me to posting that para :)

so in effect means no difference for anyone copping a canary.

Shame really as the RAC know a bucket load more than half the idiots at the inspection centres.

Well not really, if 1/2 the people who would normally be queuing are going to RAC then the vehicles that need to go the pits will get thru heaps quicker.

Correct, i was looking at it from another angle.

i.e. If you get a yellow sticker you will most likely still end up dealing with a vehicle inspector who has no clue what hes doing or looking at, rather than getting an actual qualified mechanic (RAC) giving the car a once over as it would/should be.

tuna 24-06-2007 03:35 PM

they have been doing this in bunbury for at least 10 years (outsourcing the vehicle inspections)

SCOOTER 24-06-2007 04:31 PM

You guys better be nice to me. I am going to be one of these RAC inspectors.

Will prob be lenient on the Subarus! :D

Mister Two 24-06-2007 04:38 PM
