Ferrari Mega Factory
Heyas,
Not sure if anyone saw this lastnight on National Geographic channel, but it was fookin awesome. 1hr long show all about the Ferrari 599 being built from the very beginning, and that includes them creating the block from their 'secret' metal in their foundry. Absolutely awesome watch - I've recorded it on my Foxtel unit, but dunno how to rip of off the HDD! :( Download it --> http://www.mininova.org/tor/636357 You will need a Bit Torrent client, Azureus etc etc. |
Love that doco. But its been repeated so many times It makes me wonder why I pay for foxtel. Original airing was months ago.
|
seen it.... love the way they dremel the sand casting to make sure its totally perfect which removes the need to port and polish the metal once its cast.... awesome.
|
do you think in 20 years that kind of quality construction will be used in mainstream cars?
|
Unlikely, probably go the other way ..
After watching that doco, the price tags are justified big time. |
I think you will find that electric cars will be the norm in 20 years. Provided that the oil industry does not kill them off as they usually do. They are by far the best solution. Huge torque, very low part count, Lower center of gravity, more fuel efficient, etc etc. They are just better at eveything except absolute range.
|
I think Hydrogen cars will probaly come before Electric cars still use a piston engine so wont be much change and the fumes are water cant get much better then that.
|
30hrs worth of sewing (interior) per car.......
|
whats the doco called?
|
Ferrari Mega Factory
:downtown:  |
I've had this recorded for the past 2 months on my Foxtel iQ, and probably watched it about a dozen times in that period.
Love it :) |
I think i might watch it again tomorrow - Everything they do during the build process is amazing.

Top work Slappy ^^ I will update first post and download and seed it.
|
i saw the john deer version of that doco :P
probably slightly less cool. 10 seeds - not too likely to download this year. |
, more fuel efficient,
rodgerbear: define effecient last thinmg i read was that they were less 'efficient' as pollution created by electricity generation was worse than a petrol for pure energy creation. but it is an interesting idea. i think the way to go is gas. we have large reserves of it. stop selling it overseaes so cheap and slowly convert the entire country to lpg. (bar classics and other select vehicle types) |
i saw the john deer version of that doco :P
probably slightly less cool.
I've also seen the Peterbilt truck, Apache helicopter and Abrams tank versions, as well as the John Deere one....they are ALL awesome :) |
Its no wonder ferrari can get 600hp out of a 4L V8 and yanks need 7L

Supra does it with a T60-1 high mount and metal headgasket. |
Na ?

I agree plus + for discovery channel docos |
Just saying! Americans use huge displacement, QUALITY gear like said Ferrari use high rpm. Of course add forced induction to increase both of those but $45,000 Supra that can run low 10's with a (basically) unopened engine Vs $650,000 Ferrari.................. Don't get me wrong my alltime favourite car of all time would have to be a 360 Modena F1 in Giallo Fly (yellow for the plebs). What can I say? I love boosted cars :)

straight line speed doesnt mean anything specially in a wrx forum...
take your argument elsewhere |
straight line speed doesnt mean anything specially in a wrx forum...

What he is saying is sure a Supra or anything really can be made into a 10 second drag car relatively cheap compared to a Ferarri. (We all watched the siq race in Fast and the Furious)
But power isn't everything. Does that (for example) Supra have any handling abilities? Can it drive around smoothly at low speed? Does the engine get rebuilt or popped every few months? This is where that extra money goes to. |

Jester said US uses displacement, I said Ferrari uses high rpm and Jap car can do it with a few bolt ons too. That is all. +1 for Jap car love. After all that's where 99.9% of members cars were born wasn't it? :) |

Aaah, prolly that comment above is what confused us all. To solve that argument, everyone should just get Bugatti Veyron's :D |
Or Hayabusa's :D
|
anything but a supra because there a bucket of shit...
thanks |
