demerit points help

I have lost 11 points currently.

I got a fine with 3 points 2 or 3 months ago..been trying to hang it out until aug 4th when I get 4 points back then pay the fine in hope that I will be left with a license but....speaking with someone at Department for Planning and Infrastructure today regarding my car transfer was like 'wow watch your points' and I was like yeh I know gonna pay the current outstanding bill next month when I get more points back, she was like hmm im sure they take the points from date of occurance or issue not date of payment :S

Is this true? fuk does anyone 'actually' know

Sethor 18-07-2007 02:03 PM

They take the points off when you pay the fine

wrxplod 18-07-2007 02:04 PM

When you pay. If you want me to check and provide you with a print out, PM me.

He works there so if he can't give you the low down, no-one can. Now if only he would hurry up and get promoted so he could 'dissappear' fines/stickers/demerits........................ :)

vyper 18-07-2007 02:12 PM

Taken out when you pay the fine.

RichX 18-07-2007 02:15 PM

Paying the fine is admitting guilt - So yeah .. I'd say they don't come out until you pay it .. Not to mention, they can't take the points off straight away, as what if you were not the driver!

You've got your 11 Demerits.
When you pay the fine is when you accrue the demerits. They don't back date them because my tax dollars don't pay for a time machine!
If you get your 4 demerits removed in august you'll have 7 demerits. Then you pay your new fine and merry christmas your back to 10.

You now have 10 points until your next fine elapses. Drive safe and don't risk those other 2!

Your other option is to take it on the chin, save up some cash and go to europe for a month or two, and lose your lic. Come back from holiday with 0 demerits!

(and rooted insurance if you are young)

POLARBEAR666 18-07-2007 02:18 PM

yep dont get points till u pay. So just pay once u have some points back. You can get the cops to fax you your points statement.

I have only lost 2 points because I never speed and drive like a nanna with a cardy.

From the Police website: http://www.police.wa.gov.au/Services/Traffic.asp?Infringements
Demerit points

Demerit points, where applicable, are recorded when one of the following occurs:

*
the infringement notice is paid;
*
the Fines Enforcement Registrar registers the traffic infringement notice;
*
the matter has been heard by a court and a finding of guilty has been declared and penalty pronounced.

Demerit points are allocated from the offence date and remain on your driver's licence for three years.

Demerit point totals are not given over the phone. You can contact the Department for Planning and Infrastructure on 13 11 56 or your local licensing centre.

Certified Record of Demerit Points can only be obtained in person from:

*
local WA police stations.
*
Infringement Management & Operations, 2 Wellington Street, East Perth.

Note: You will need to produce identification such as a driver's licence or passport.
You be the judge :D

AFAIK RAC now only keep it for 3 years and now you only have to tell them convictions (ie drink or dangerous driving). Im sure Paul or Steve can fill us in!
