Pirating Movies, Music and Software is for Amatures...
The Chinese really know how to pirate shit.
Why stop at pirating Fashion, Music, DVDs, Cinematic Movies and Software when you can go all the way and pirate an entire CAR!? http://gemssty.com/2006/10/29/top-10-copycat-cars/ http://www.autoblog.com/2005/04/16/chinese-copy-cats/ (old link) http://paultan.org/archives/2004/12/05/china-pirates/ (old link) They have no shame. Especially with the Honda CRV copy. Not only do they admit to copying the CRV, but they are damn proud of it. Fucking oath. Get an imagination and design your own damned cars! Even the ones they design themselves are shitty. Ssangyong anyone? I pity the cheapskate idiots that buy those pieces of shit.

As much as you want to bag them out, you need to respect the level of engineering required to reverse something and to actually have it work.
I'm sure alot of other manufacturers do similar practices, Although maybe in a more covert fashion. I actually admire their level of manufacturing processes and smarts. Some may say that its actually keeping the market more competitive, over time we might even see China start becoming the next major contender for quality manufacturing. Its funny how the Chinese copy things, especially machinery.
How they do it? When a company in another country sells and sends a piece of equipment over to China, for some reason, it goes into "quarantine" for a few months i.e. they open the container, strip it, reverse engineer it, reassemble it and then release it from customs I've also heard of companies sending decoy machinery thats built wrong, so the Chinese get thrown off. Cheeky, but very enterprising. |

A lot more here, I don't mind the top one, don't think it's a copy of anything in particular, sort of a bitsa.

Look at Japan 40 years ago. They produced shit. Now look at them. They produce some of the best gear in the world. My point is that it will take a little while for china to catch up but it wont be long before they get it right. When you have 1 billion plus people you got to find something for them to do.
Audi make an a6 in china for the domestic market and that is fine.

Aparently Lexus ( Toyota ) went out and bought 1 of every Luxury Sedan with a reputation. Disassembled them all and went from the best bits of each.
I'd prefer a bimmer merc or audi but first Lexus's were pretty good. Direct copies though are a bit cheeky.
