Yeah that kind of illusion is really cool. A lot of magicians use a similar prop in some magic tricks.

The brain struggles to determine that you are looking at a hollow and not something popping out which makes the illusion of the face following you.

I had a video of a similar technique on a dragon a long time ago, I'll see if I can find it again.
