Default What's it called when..

At my place we just had some new proximity card readers installed.

Thing is they're big, plastic and make the place look shit. What I want to do is take the face of them off and get them plated or coated in an aluminum type finish.

What treatment process could you use for plastic?

I called a metal plating place and he said the closest place you could get that done is SA, which is cool they're only light. But it's hard to find places when i don't know what type of service I'm after.

Chris why dont u just paint them in an aluminium finish..

Use esp to prime the plastic then spray them.. will look exactly like a metal finish..

Yeah I was a little nervous about DIY as they're on the main entrance of the building and I didn't want to fk em.

But if you think it'll look just as good, I might test it on one in the garage.

just find abit of plastic so its the same material... i.e buy a power switch and then try the process with that..

esp is the primer.. u wipe it on and that will bond the top layer.. its enamel so will be nice and smooth..

Take them to a car painting joint and get the lot proffesionally painted and baked, that way tou can cut them back with a bit of cut and polish from time to time?

Wouldnt have thought it would be that different to painting a scoop or spoiler?

Not any more apparently, second guy that's told me only over east.

But the more I think about it the more I want an Aluminum finish.. I seem to constantly try to make things harder for myself.

The sign out the front of Ultrachrome says METAL & PLASTIC PLATING.

They should probably change that

Will metal interfere with the function of the proximity card reader?

I'd probably stay away from chrome plating, or any other true metallic coating until i found out for sure how it would affect the function.

Ha, yeah probably.

Yeah I didn't think about the interference factor. I'm just gonna spray paint em.
