X2

I also give blood and some other thing that freaks me out. As much as i really hate the idea of giving blood and having my organs cut out etc (if need arises of course ) i figure its a bloody good idea. All my family are in the same boat.

Although the blood bank at whitfords is seriously lacking in a few areas so sometimes its hard to get in.. And with organ donation you cant just tick the box anymore. Gotta send forms in. Waste of time IMHO..

Sucks to hear about your little baby. I reckon it would be an unreal experience to have a a baby (although im MORE than happy to wait a while and stick with a puppy ) but i couldnt even begin to imagine what its like to go through all that.

As has been said, im sure all our thoughts are with you guys!

In regard to the transplant- does it mean that another baby has died

I dont know you from a bar of soap, but I wish you the best of luck in what can only be described as a difficult time.

Should be a reminder to many of us that what we have is a blessing.

Mat, I'm sure Wes will know better then me, but from what I can recall the liver is self generative to a small extent. As a result the donor can be an adult, it will simply be cut to size and will grow up with Deakin. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone, its been a long time since I did any study of a medical nature.

Sorry to hear about your son.
I wish him all the best and hope he will be fine.

I am a organ donor, we dont need our organs when we die so we should leave them to who may need them like your little boy.

All the best

Correct me if im wrong but i was talking to my mate that has diabeties and i dont think people with diabeties can. For obvious reasons.

Hope it all works out, and im going to make sure, but i will definatley be giving up my organs. If me passing away saves 3 or 4 lives, or even 1, its definatley worth it.

What's the nation with the highest rate of organ donation? Spain?

I heard that you were automatically placed as an organ donor when you got your drivers licence, and had to specially apply to the government if you desired otherwise. Exact opposite to what we have here... Bloody stupid that we can't just tick a box - I know that I myself didnt send in the organ donation form for a solid 12 months after i got my licence, just cos it was a huge hassle (err, sorta)

Organ donation is a good thing.

+1 For organ donors!

For gods sake people get on the marrow donor list aswell! And donate blood. The little things that can do so much for someone else.

I personally am unable to donate anything, so you all have to do it for me! Obligation!

Note that if you indicate on your licence that you wish to be an organ donor, it does not mean that your organs will be donated after your death...the current law in WA means that the next of kin have the final say...so even if you've said yes, if they say no then end of donation. I understand there is a lobby to change that law.
Australia does have a low organ donor rate, but we do have an Australia wide organ exchange program, so no donation goes to waste. I run the organ transplant matching lab at RPH and last year WA had 21 cadaver donors...that figure has been pretty constant over the past 5 or 6 years.
So any of you who are donors, make sure you tell your next of kin to say "yes".

Xology...good luck with the liver Tx...fortunately liver doesn't require histocompatibility matching like other solid organs, so generally a blood group match is what they will go with. The positive thing for you though, is that in Australia our medical services are second to none in the world.

Correct, I cannot donate, which is a shame as its something I would have loved to be able to do if the worst did happen.
