x3 for the Valentine. We did a group buy a few months back, heard nothing but praise of them from everyone.

+1 for delonixradar

What ever you do, don't try and save money by purchasing a cheap detector (RMR, Cobra, Uniden, Early Warning POS n others) from Autobahn and friends as they do not work against multanovas!

You need the best - ie V1, Escort, Bel STi. Good luck.

Valentine boys - have any of you tested the V1 against a multanova in wide ka band mode?? (ie ka narrow band off)

Haven't tested it myself as im not in the country atm. But feedback from a few of my mates that have them has been good, not too much difference.

Good to hear - I'm not sure if the V1 is worth it now (over the x50) since the new dash mounted Ka units are coming in which prevent the use of Ka narrow band on the V1. I've always wanted to 'upgrade' to the V1 but not being able to use ka narrow band - i'm not sure if its worth the extra $300+

The V1 in wide ka band mode should be at least as good as the X50 at detecting multanovas... probably won't be getting the 900m alerts anymore though

Gotta wait and see the tests

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I thought it better than start a new thread.
For those interested in the question above, I did some tests (surprise surprise...yawn....I have to buy my gf flowers each time now cause she is so sick of driving back and forth past Multanovas why I film) on the V1 with Euro mode off, as well as the best position for it...enjoy.

I did some tests with Euro mode off, and even mounted normally, the range was pretty good:

Euro off, normal mounting
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euCGV4B8AsA
1st run: 395 meters
2nd run: 402 meters
Average: 398 meters

Euro off, vertical mount
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y-FSVWfSso
1st run: 417 meters
2nd run: 440 meters
Average: 428 meters

Euro ON, normal mounting
(previous day, same road)
1st run: 443 meters
2nd run: 451 meters
Average: 447 meters

Also for those interested in where is the best place to mount your radar detector:

V1 Euro OFF, mounting in front grill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYpoLsAGXZI
1st run: 381 meters
2nd run: 394 meters
3rd run: 264 meters
4th run: 260 meters
Average: 324 meters

V1 Euro OFF, mounting low on windscreen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Icg5ldXIE
1st run: 383 meters
2nd run: 385 meters
3rd run: 375 meters
Average: 381 meters

V1 Euro OFF, mounting on sun visor (high)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyXg9tkkJws
1st run: 201 meters
2nd run: 203 meters
3rd run: 204 meters
4th run: (mounted high on windscreen just below tint strip):
255 meters

Summary:

Euro mode ON does increase the detection range, but having Euro mode OFF still gives more than adequate warning. Mounting your V1 vertically when Euro mode is off, gives only a tad less range than mounting normally with Euro mode ON.

Mounting low on your windscreen seems to give the longest warnings. Although mounting in the grill gave two equally long warnings, there were also two warnings that were approx 30% less when mounted in the front grill. Perhaps this is because at that height, other cars have more impact on blocking the radar signal from the camera??

Jez,

That's really good to see mate. I did a similar thing with the loan detectors you gave me, mainly the Escort. I tried them low down, higher up and by the sun visor. Low down i found wasn't overly great, i would say because the scoop was in the way.

The tests near the rear view mirror were average at best, which was quite suprising. I figured they would be the same if not better than lower down on the window!

Seams that the best place was just high enough to clear the scoop, without it been to high that it blocks your vision.

Also should comment that i have gone through a couple of multinova's since i've been back with Euro mode OFF and haven't noticed a great deal of difference. Still gave enough warning to slow down (and grab a coffee) before i went past the multinova.
