best fwd turbo going in aus in my book, venture over to http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/ if you want to know what owners think about them, bought the wife the 1.4 GT Sport though instead of GTi, quality build, dsg box in very impressive and no lag

Just knew you'd jump on this one Dave What's the 1.4 worth? Actually today I read that the GTi's are an excellent car according to 'Motor magazine' (Jan 08 i think)

Tode, drive the Golf GT Sport TDi if you get the chance. With an Oettinger tune you'll get near 400nm of torque at bugger all RPM...apparently a flashed TDi is as quick as a WRX.

We've got a GTI that I use as my daily driver. Its a 3dr with the manual gearbox and the cloth/tarton trim. Seats are the best I've sat in and way better than any Impreza/Liberty I've sat in. Its a very different car to the pre 08 WRX. More refined with the interior being the obvious improvement. Handling/steering is excellent but it does suffer from a lack of front grip if you step out of a WRX. Having said that I've had it on a wet skidpan at AHG at it handled and got its power down really well. Engine is very responsive and torquey but maybe slightly lacking that extra power the WRX has when it hits full boost.

Are the seats in the GT sport and GTi the same? Is there different leather u can get or is just cloth OR leather (2 options) im loving the white or red colours... limo's.. 19" time attacks, dumped... flash... BOMBED! |

I have heard that the DSG's are very smooth when new but as the clutches wear a bit it can get a bit agricultural. Not sure if it's true.
Love the idea but imagine that when you do fry the clutches it is a pretty expensive exercise. Suspect if you try to mod the thing a bit that an uprated clutch isn't going to exist either.

Leather is an option, as is sat-nav, sunroof, etc. Check out the VW site, has a full option list with pricing, and downloadable PDF brochures. I tried steering my mate towards one of these rather than a Falcon, so I did the research for him (and he bought the Falcon anyway ) Word of advice...get the ordinary manual, not the DSG, purely for tuning potential. The reflash program for the DSG makes less torque than the manual trans flash program, maybe its because it can't handle the extra torque? |

Also, I stand corrected...the ordinary Golf TDi with 103kw and 320nm standard gets "near" 400nm (380nm to be exact).
The GT Sport TDi 6 speed manual with the 125kw and 350nm TDi engine gets 420nm (the DSG version still gets 380nm), with the Oettinger tune. http://oettinger.de/index2_e.htm Also read this...an ordinary Golf TDi flashed with 380nm, and reviewed. http://autospeed.com/cms/A_3073/article.html |
