I'm glad his family was there.. at least.

That corner's always been a bugger. If his belts really did snap, I can only imagine what this may lead to. Why was a 5-6 point harness not strong enough? 200k's is a lot but.. but if snapping harnesses is what killed him, things need to be looked at again in my opinion.

He died doing what he loved. That's not the worst way you can go.

I was pretty shocked that he died as the impact point was on the opposite side of the car and it was a partially glancing blow. Bit of an eye opener. RIP and condolences.

It certainly did not look like that crash would have resulted in a fatality. Sure it was fast but it glanced off, never really had a big impact. He would have been wearing a HANS too so neck injury would have been absorbed. I knew it was bad on Saturday when CAMS announced an inquiry. Seemed a bit late for that, cars have been hitting turn 8 hard since they started racing that layout. The track needs more room, more run off at the end of a straight that long. When they shortened the GP circuit it actually made the straight there longer, I reckon the GP layout was safer. It would be good if the results of the inquiry were shared with the motorsport community so we can all learn and make changes to out cars to improve safety. We learned not to mount harnesses to the rear bars in roll cages after Rodger Freeth's death, but sadly not through any CAMS memo, only through the grapevine.

The old GP track definitely had a safer turn onto the back straight, much more run off.

Interestingly, in 94 when Mika nearly lost his life he also needed an emergency trachea opening.

They should also consider the SAFER barrier system currently being used in Nascar.

Agree 110%. Anything to improve safety should be copied into all members regardless if they are in V8's or just do low level track days. A simple memo can potentially save someone else's line later on.
