Whistler's are awesome value for money - especially if he gets a REV C. model. Rev C's should give at very minimum 100metres a warning in most situations (not tested on reverse facing yet) and give you upto 300m warning.

However if his loaded i'd recommend Valentine1 or a Bel Sti-R for the best multinova detection possible. With all these radars, a laser jammer is required - especially as whistler's have crap laser detection (not that it matters). Jezza on the forums owns delonixradar.com.au, i'd recommend him or radars.com.au (Nick?) for your mates purchase.

Cecelia,

Tell them not to bother with whistlers. I personally had a whistler, an Escort and a V1 in my car as a trial on loan from Jez. I ran a few tests with all three against different multinova's, the whistler just didn't perform at all.

In the first couple of tests it gave me 50m max warning, i could see the camera by eye before the detector picked it up. Had i actually been speeding i would have been flashed before it went off. The second run was a bit better giving close to 100m warning, however the third i pretty much had gone past the camera before i got any alert at all.

Either the escort or the V1 are the only detectors i would trust to give an acurate and reliable warning time against multinovas. I personally have the V1 and it's saved me so many times it's not funny. It usually gives anywhere up to and sometimes over 3-400m warning on multinovas.

Give Jeremy a call from delonixradar.com.au and he can sort your friend out with a good price on either the V1 or Escort or even a whistler if need be.

I have the XTR-690 in my car. Bought it last year some time. Haven't had any problems with it, it usually gives me at least 100m warning on radars, but I have had upto 700+ m warning before too.

+3 for the V1

I have had Unidens and a heap of Bel's over the time, the V1 is by far the best radar detector out there. Worth every bit of the $$$
