Default Mac Wizards Advice

Just ordered a new Mac Book Pro. Hopefully be ready to pick up Thursday.

Just want a quick idiots guide to Mac security. Have a PC pretty well sussed but have been told by many people don't worry about virus or spyware software on a Mac.

Forgive me if I sound a little cynical about the don't get viruses spiel. To many years with PC's.

Is there anything I really should know about keeping the thing safe and running sweet or Leopard wraps you in cotton wool and won't let you have any issues.

No need for either mate
I have been running mine for years now without either and it is fine.

I don't even run a firewall on this.

Just every month or so I will do some periodic maintenance which is as easy as opening terminal and typing sudo periodic daily weekly monthly and pressing enter.

I run Sophos antivirus on my Mac. But I only installed it because my work allow their employees to install a copy of sophos for their home computer, so I installed it solely because I can for free..
You'll be very unlucky to be infected by one of the handful of viruses available for Mac. Therefore it's not 'impossible', but the chance is VERY low, to most people it's not worth paying for antivirus because it's that low.

The OS is designed in such a way that you would have to type your administrator password in to even install the virus so unless you are retarded you wont get infected by a virus.

I quite like it, am happy with it. Sites like PWRX have different dropdown boxes etc, unlike with internet explorer.

The only problem that i have with it is with hotmail. If i dont logout then it wont let me get into hotmail again, i have to go into windows live and sign out
