It may not lower the road toll, and it may not stop hooning or reckless driving... but the truth is... nothing ever will.

There still has to be some form of punishment however, and maybe making it a lot harsher hoons may think twice about it... although I highly doubt it.

But that's how it is... and like Police Minister John Kobelke said and I quote "Driving comes with responsibilities and those who choose to abide by the law have nothing to fear from these new penalties"

Kato 04-06-2008 12:43 PM

So long as they target genuine hoons causing problems on the road, I see no problem in it. Do the crime do the time.

If by bringing in these new laws we all get tarred with the same brush (i.e. omgz modified car yo, must be a hoon) then no I disagree with this approach.

Funny how they release articles saying how the hoon laws must be working since there are only a few repeat offenders and fewer people being caught. I hope the monetary penalty didn't increase to make sure they still get the same revenue, I mean... well I mean revenue :D

What is the definition for reckless driving?? is it a certain number of km/h over the limit?

A 2 Grand fine is quite excessive, and im sure could be given quite easily by a police person that got up on the wrong side of the bed..

Steven.

Reckless is 30km/h + isn't it?? Or is it 40 +

Either way, don't be a dick and you've got nothing to worry about.............................except yellow stickers :(

doadrift 04-06-2008 01:29 PM

If people who do these things are dumb enough to still do it I'm sure they will also be dumb enough to try and get away now. Probably less fines for getting away and them getting your license plate than there is to pull over now :S

And really who here hasn't once had there car 30kmh over the limit? I think the first step is to take ALL THE PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE off the road. Like the people with high accident rates etc. clearly if they have caused a bunch of accidents they should resit there test.

This isn't deterring me at all. It just means that sneepy will cop more charity mods. The faster I go, the less chance I have of getting caught.

How the hell can they hoon law you if you’re going nuts on private property!?

What if your mate owns a car park and you’ve closed it off and your doing doughies?

Would you be right in preventing the police from entering the car park (trespassing on private property) and therefore preventing them from booking you!?!?

ninjawrx 04-06-2008 01:55 PM

Doent bother me so much about harsher penaltys but what about the real crimes like child fiddlers and elderly getting bashed by non reflectives etc

Targeting all the wrong areas!

Will it change the road toll? I highly doubt it!
