just wondering if anyone knows how to unlock a nokia handset from telstra or is it easier just to pay someone to do it for me?

depends what phone.

We have a 3 handset we want to unlock. Anywhere good to go and cheap? Don't see why we should pay a fortune for a phone we already have well and truley paid for...

Those asian shops in the city? Anyone know how much they charge?

last time i had a phone unlocked in the city they charged me $35

depends on the phone but some are able to be unlocked with a program downloaded from the net. I did my V3 a while ago with a program I bought from ebay and it cost me $2.50

With few exceptions, any of the BB5 models of Nokias can't be unlocked with a code generator unless your name is Dejan (the only person who has ever cracked the codes).

If it's a DCT3/DCT4 model, ie more than 2 years old, I can do it for free.

Also, if it's out of contract, Telstra can give you the unlock code for free if you ring them.
