GTR35 - Gearbox Failures?

Hi,

I'm sure this isn't news to anyone here, but the transmission failures seem to be coming in thick and fast on US delivered GTR's.

http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=25361 has had at least 100 viewers at any one time since it started, the world is definitely watching.

For those not aware, once you deactivate the VDC and use launch control on a GTR, all warranty is voided. So to actually make your 3.4sec car leap to 100 in 3.4 seconds - you have to void warranty. Tuners are now saying the transmissions could only be good for twelve months, and at 20kUSD a pop, some people are having trouble swallowing this one. Class actions are about to start.

Also, you might have seen the fact that GTR has halted production? The link is translated and difficult to read, any Japanese readers on here?

Perhaps to address the transmission 'fault'?

This car is under the biggest microscope I've ever seen for a car in my lifetime, it will be interesting to see the extent of these issues. I'd be a bit upset about the fact that you can never actually achieve the quoted numbers without voiding your warranty? But I guess they all know before they buy it.

Cheers,
Nik

The aftermarket gear box providers will love this!!!

Shame that a car with so much hype has come down to something so simple yet vital to any motor vehicle. For the price tag I would have thought they would have put in something more indestructible.

Hi,

They have a full two pages in the service manual for full transmission replacements. In USD you can just about buy a 997TT for the dollars it would cost to fill the page in tranny replacements!

Maybe Porsche will have the last laugh on this one?

Cheers,
Nik

Renault Nissan = Renault Quality?

Meh, I liked the Lexus IS-F better anyway.

:D

FARK nice find nik, my worst fears with the dreaded rear mounted gearbox, looks like its gonna be R34 vspec for me then :)

indeed, im sure porsche are pissing themselves laughing.

Im sure all will be fixed, never known the Japs to go ah fuk it leave it as it is. They'll fix it or tell you "you should of bought the upcoming v-spec instead" in the most polite way possible.

Here is the translation

About a month ago, "GT-R will be suspended orders", "a temporary stop of the factory production line," or "RERURASHII be raised," such as spreading rumors. Many were picked up by car magazines, so many of you already know it.
In fact, readers have also been inquiries about the matter,掴MENAKATTA reliable information for the article said.

However, "the temporary suspension order" of the rumors, apparently was real.
We found that around October 6 from the dealer?

Yeah - massive failure, just like this thread.

Cheers,

^^^^^was that called for? Or am i missing something?

The r35 did seem a little good to be true. Its like the r34 z tune. Warranty was 1 year or 10000kms or something, cant expect something pushing the limits like these cars are to last.

My 2 cents

Yeah it is, but just making a point.

To label the thing a massive failure because some American muppet cant read a owners manual and thrashed the thing senseless till it broke is uncalled for.

End of the day moving 1900kg from 0 to 100 in 3 seconds is going to but major strain on parts. Unfortunately the box is going to take a battering. And im not trying to defend the failures, but these few guys in the U.S are the vocal MINORITY.

I have no doubts Nissan would be working on an upgrade or solution.

I and many others saw a local one bust out launch control over and over at Targa and its well and truly alive.
