Outlook Express - Randomly lost all emails.

Well, I was in the middle of Outlook's routine folder compacting ("To save diskspace, outlook can compact messages, this may take a few moments" etc etc), and the computer decides to lose all power and basically die.

So after the restart, I went into my inbox and I have lost 200 odd emails that I need to get back.

Any ideas how they can be retrieved, or wtf happened? Could a system restore retreive them/fix the problem?

Thanks in advance :(
Luca.

ouch.. check if outlook moved it into an archive pst file
usually: C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
If there is one there add the data file into your Outlook

Managed to find a bak/dbx file in there. Is there any way of extracting the messages out of it using a reader for that filetype?

The .bak is the backup of all the emails.

Just rename the .bak to .dbx and vola there all back again.

there is probably a inbox.bak and a inbox.dbx.

Cut the inbox.dbx out of the folder and rename the inbox.bak to .dbx
