Buying = Cost of car, insurance, registration and the trouble of selling/scrapping it later down the track.

Hire = Drive in/drive out (within reason).

you can pay rego for 6 months which covers you if you crash for there injuries, but I think you still need to pay 3rd party insurance to cover the car you hit.

The third party that covers injuries only is compulsory and is included in the registration.

The property cover isn't compulsory no. But for the $200 bucks or whatever it is a year, you might as well get it for peace of mind.

A pulsar isnt the kind of car that'd survive a prang good enough to do a runner...

You dont need insurance, its a load of wank what these guys are saying. ive bin driving my bunky camry around for 6 months now with out insurance, if your a carefull driver then you should have no probs.

hire cars waste of time, buy a bunky to run around, plus you can keep it, if something happens to your suby, use it as a daily.

I piked up my camry for $300 with blown head gasket. I managed to fix it up for $600 i have a perfectly good car now for $900. kinda happy with it, got electric mirrows, electric windows, p/s, a/c, EFI. all the luxury bits. this is what got me its a 84 camry, even the 86 corrolas dont have all this shit in them.

so my view bunky over hire car.

I just hired a FG XR6 for 580 bucks for a week from thrifty including the optional extra cover to reduce excess.

There is 25% off between january and march next year - not sure if this helps you though, but perfect for me while im in QLD.

If I had just arrived in Australia, id want something comfy and reliable especially if I had to drive 200 daunting km to Bunbury. Plenty of room, and its safer then some 1980's shitter if you need to take your family.

Anyone who does not have insurance covering other peoples property (I forget what it is called - 3rd party?) should be shot and their vehicles should be crushed under the hoon law.

It costs hardly anything per year and is there to pay out on accidents (yes even the best driver in the world can be part of an accident).

I personally think it should be compulsory to have.

On topic: If it is short term, I would just get a hire car. New car, no issues trying to get it fixed up to run, etc etc etc. A cheap bunky will have issues and I wouldn't want to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere when you are trying to familiarise yoruself with WA.
